Sharon Farmer

Sharon M. Farmer, 78, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024 at LaBella of Alton.

Born July 29, 1945, she was the daughter of William Cato and Mary (Maxwell) Cato Mercer. She was raised by her mother Mary and Norman Mercer. They preceded her in death, as well as her husband, Paul Dean Farmer and her previous husband, Ronnie Pruitt.

Sharon worked as a CNA for various senior citizen facilities. She was a devout Christian and very active in her church, Beltline Christian Center and previously at Alpha Chapel, both in Alton. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and singing at church, and organized the Prayer and Share at Evergreen Place in Alton. She also enjoyed painting, writing stories, and caring for her cats.

Survivors include her children, Rich (Suzanne) Pruitt of Carlinville, Gina Yarbrough of Alton, and David (Jill) Pruitt of Godfrey; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Jeremy, Amber, Josh, Alyssa, Hunter, Chase, Hadley, James and Jackson; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Sue (Gary) Liley of Alton and their son Shane; a brother, Orville (Jane) Mercer of Troy and their daughter and son Gwen and Zach; a cousin Dale Raymond of East Alton; her dear friend Aurora Yinger; and her half-sister, Dona Davis. 

Visitation will be at Paynic Home for Funerals on Wednesday, May 1 from 10 a.m. until services begin at 1 p.m.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to Beltline Christian Center.
